Jim Higgins

Question:

184 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health the number of patients from each health board area currently on the cardiac by-pass waiting list; and the number of patients from each of the health boards who had undergone heart by-pass surgery in 1993.

The number of patients on the cardiac surgery waiting list at the national cardiac surgery unit, Mater Hospital is 1,565. The number of open heart surgery cases performed in the national cardiac surgery unit in 1993 was 741. The number of open heart surgery cases performed in Cork Regional Hospital was 140 in 1993 and there are 54 on the waiting list. The further information requested by the Deputy is not readily available and I will forward it directly to him as soon as possible.
