Vol. 441 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tuam (Galway) School.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

35 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the conditions of Sylane national school, Tuam, County Galway; if her attention has further been drawn to the length of time that the board of management is waiting for improvements to be carried out; and if the project will commence in 1994.

My Department has sanctioned the provision of a new toilet block at this school and I understand that the project will shortly be ready to proceed to tender. It is hoped that this facility will be completed in advance of the commencement of the new school year.

I am aware of the delay which has occurred in progressing this project since the original grant sanction by my Department. I understand however that the matter was not pursued by the school authorities at the time.

A report is being prepared by my Department's professional advisers on additional improvements requested by the Board of Management. When the report is to hand, this project will be considered for grant purposes and a decision will be conveyed to the Chairman of the Board of Management.
