Vol. 441 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mullingar (Westmeath) Test Centre.

Paul McGrath

Question:

118 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment the reason Mullingar, County Westmeath, is not considered suitable as a test centre for drivers of articulated trucks; and if, considering the recently opened by-pass of the town and the resulting decrease in traffic, he will consider designating Mullingar as suitable for such tests.

I am advised that Mullingar is not suitable for conducting driving tests in articulated trucks because of the lack of parking and turning space for such vehicles within a reasonable distance of the test centre. The opening of the by-pass has not altered the situation. Testing in such vehicles in Athlone and Tullamore offers reasonable alternatives to applicants.
