Vol. 441 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fire Brigade Services.

Willie Penrose

Question:

103 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Environment the up-to-date position in relation to the central control system which is being developed for call outs of fire brigade services in the Leinster area; if the system will be developed on a county to county basis; if it will be introduced for all of the counties in Leinster; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As far as Leinster, and counties Cavan and Monaghan, are concerned, the up to date position in regard to the main elements of the computer-aided mobilisation project (CAMP) for the fire service is that

—a comprehensive management structure involving all the local authorities concerned continues to monitor and direct the development of the project;

—the construction of a new central control centre in Pearse Street, Dublin has recently been completed;

—the collection of the necessary computer data (addresses, etc) has been completed in the Dublin area and is proceeding in counties Laois, Offaly and Meath;
—Dublin Fire Brigade is operating the new computer-based mobilisation procedure from its existing control room;
—work is in progress to identify the most suitable radio system for the project;
—the implementation of the recent agreement with the Eastern Health Board that all Dublin ambulance calls should be handled by the new Pearse Street centre is under way.
It is the intention that the new fire service mobilisation and control procedures should be operational in all the Leinster counties and counties Cavan and Monaghan as soon as practicable — the arrangements for their introduction into individual counties to be determined in due course.
