Vol. 442 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Jim Higgins — the need for an independent inquiry in relation to the circumstances surrounding the mixing up of patient notes at a hospital (details supplied) having regard to the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 183 of 19 April; (2) Deputy P. McCormack — the circulation by the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht of information pertaining to Gaeltacht grant approvals to applicants who did not contact the Minister, together with canvassing material for the European elections; (3) Deputy P. Rabbitte — the subject matter of the Taoiseach's reported comments at the recent conference of the Irish Management Institute in Killarney regarding Government proposals for a merged residential property tax and service charge; (4) Deputy E. Gilmore — the reply to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 128 and 133 of 26 April, in relation to giant hogweed; (5) Deputy Frances Fitzgerald — the escalation of crime in the Rathmines area of Dublin; (6) Deputy P. Hogan — the need for immediate intervention to avert the threatened rail strike; (7) Deputy L. McManus — the threatened resignation of doctors at the Rotunda Hospital sexual assault treatment unit because of inadequate staffing levels and facilities; and the implications of this development for the treatment of victims of sexual assault.

The matters raised by Deputies P. Hogan, E. McCormack, Jim Higgins and E. Gilmore have been selected for discussion.

On a point of order, a number of Deputies other than myself submitted questions to the Ceann Comhairle on the impending rail strike. Having regard to the fact that the House will not sit until Wednesday next, I am surprised the opportunity was not given to hear the Minister answer questions on this matter.

I cannot deal with it. The Deputy should put his question to the Ceann Comhairle's office.
