Vol. 442 No. 2

Written Answers. - Co-operation Between Forbairt and County Enterprise Boards.

Michael McDowell

Question:

13 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if there will be co-operation between the regional boards of the IDA and the new county enterprise boards; and the way in which this is to be put in place.

Robert Molloy

Question:

20 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if there will be co-operation between the regional boards of the IDA and the new county enterprise boards; and the way in which this is to be put in place.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 13 and 20 together.

I understand that co-operation currently exists between Forbairt, the new agency with primary responsibility for the regional boards of the former IDA, and the county enterprise boards through the involvement of Forbairt regional managers as members of the relevant county enterprise boards, and the involvement of Forbairt small business projects staff on the relevant evaluation committees of the county enterprise boards.

I also understand that a number of county or city managers chair the county enterprise board in their specific county or city and, that Forbairt regional boards have county or city managers in the particular region as members.

While these arrangements provide the basis for co-operation and co-ordination of the efforts of Forbairt, its regional boards and the county enterprise boards, my Department will be monitoring the position on an on-going basis to ensure the adequacy of arrangements in place and assess the need for any new arrangements, if necessary.
