Vol. 442 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mislaid Files/Applications.

Jim Higgins

Question:

116 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of files and applications mislaid in respect of the different livestock schemes which his Department has officially acknowledged to have been mislaid and which were subsequently found or not located in respect of 1993 schemes.

My Department receives and processes approximately 600,000 headage/premia applications each year. Since files move between local livestock offices, head office and field inspection staff, some files will inevitably be temporarily mislaid. Records are not kept of such events and accordingly, it is not possible to give the statistics required in the question. The number of files that are mislaid other than for brief periods is extremely small and would not justify the setting up of an elaborate recording system that could provide the statistics requested.
