Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - Gweedore (Donegal) Turf Generating Station.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

174 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if his attention has been drawn to the economic contribution of the Gweedore turf generating station to Gaeltacht families living in the vicinity of that station; the plans, if any, he has to maintain the station in operation in the years ahead; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the economic contribution of Gweedore generating station to the workers and families living in its vicinity.

It is my intention that the station will continue to operate until at least 1995 at which time the position will be finally reviewed taking into account the longer term peat supply.
