Vol. 442 No. 5

Written Answers. - Organic Farming.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

166 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the acreage of land in each county being farmed organically; and the standard and procedure that is used to determine this information.

It is not possible, at present, to give a breakdown on a county basis of the land farmed organically in Ireland. The estimated figure for the country is 5,777 hectares (2,688 organic and 3,089 in conversion). The information is based on the standards and procedures used in EC regulation 2092/91 and the organic livestock rules of the approved inspection bodies in Ireland.
