Vol. 442 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

John Browne

Question:

199 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education if she will give a breakdown of the financial grants given from national lottery funds to sports complexes with swimming pools and individual swimming pools, for each of the years from 1991 to 1993 and committed for 1994.

In 1988 the then Government approved a multi-annual capital programme for the provision of major sports facilities at various locations throughout the country. A number of swimming pool projects were funded under this programme and these are outlined in the tabular statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

No additional swimming pool projects have been assisted by my Department under the major sports facilities programme and the primary responsibility for the funding of swimming pool projects rests with the Department of the Environment.
