106 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice the procedures which apply in relation to residence by non-nationals in Ireland; the changes, if any, that have taken place in such procedures in recent times; the position in particular of those who are nationals of other member states of the European Union; the restrictions or conditions that apply in relation to their residence in Ireland; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The provisions which apply in relation to residence by non-nationals generally are contained in the Aliens Act 1935 (No. 14 of 1935), the Aliens Order, 1946 (No. 395 of 1946) and the Aliens (Amendment) Order, 1975 (No. 128 of 1975). The provisions which apply in particular to nationals of member states of the European Union are contained in the European Communities (Aliens) Regulations, 1977 and 1993 (No. 393 of 1977 and No. 109 of 1993).
