Vol. 442 No. 5

Written Answers. - Milk Quota Allocation.

Jim Higgins

Question:

143 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who applied for milk quota, beef quota, suckler quota and sheep quota has been refused.

I asked the Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal to make a recommendation to me on the application for additional milk quota by the person named. An allocation of milk quota was not, however, recommended by the tribunal in this case.

As the special beef premium operates on the basis of a national quota, rather than individual quotas, the question of an individual allocation of quota for this premium does not arise.

My Department has no record of having received an application for 1993 suckler cow reserve quota from the person named.

The person named applied for ewe premium quota from the national reserve but did not indicate any particular category. His application has been examined but I regret that he does not qualify for reserve quota as he has not been an applicant for ewe premium at least in recent years.
