Vol. 442 No. 6

Written Answers. - Claremorris (Mayo) Bypass.

Jim Higgins

Question:

43 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, there are to make the necessary finances available in 1994 to commence work on the Claremorris by-pass, County Mayo.

A compulsory purchase order in relation to this scheme was received in my Department on 4 May 1994. The latest date for reciept of objections is 15 June 1994. If valid objections are made, a public local inquiry must be held. There will be no avoidable delay in processing matters and in the final determination of the case. My role in determining the order is of a quasi-judicial nature and it would not be appropriate to comment on any aspects of the scheme at this stage.

I have no function in relation to the allocation of grants for individual national road projects which is now a matter for the National Roads Authority.
