Vol. 442 No. 6

Written Answers. - Donegal Bypass.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

45 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment if plans have been submitted by Donegal County Council to his Department in relation to the proposed by-pass at Donegal town; the date the plans were received by his Department; if these plans have been examined and whether approved funds are being allocated towards the project in question; and when work will commence on the project.

A compulsory purchase order was submitted by Donegal County Council in relation to the scheme and a public local inquiry into objections received against confirmation of the order was held from 18-20 January 1994. There will be no avoidable delay in processing matters arising from the inquiry and in the final determination of the case. My role in determining the order is of a quasi-judicial nature and it would not be appropriate to comment on any aspects of the scheme at this stage.

I have no function in relation to the selection of, or the allocation of grants to, individual national road projects which is now a matter for the National Roads Authority.
