Vol. 442 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jim Higgins

Question:

62 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason for the delay in the payment of suckler cow grants to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.

My Department is unable to trace any 1993 suckler cow premium scheme application from the person named.

Avril Doyle

Question:

63 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will extend retrospectively the increased rate of grant for reactors to farmers who were depopulated during December 1993, and so suffered severe hardship and were not allowed to restock until after 1 April 1994.

The recently announced increases in the reactor grants under the bovine TB and brucellosis eradication schemes are retrospective to 1 January 1994 and apply to reactors removed for slaughter on or after that date.

It will be appreciated that, in any scheme involving the payment of grants, there has to be a cut-off point and this applies when grants are being reduced as well as being increased.

Avril Doyle

Question:

64 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason that those who accepted Mulder offers in January and February 1994, have not yet been paid, despite the EU assuring claimants that they would be paid within two months of accepting the offer.

Under EU legislation the deadline for payment of SLOM compensation is 15 October 1994.

Payments are at present being processed and will be made as soon as possible.
