Vol. 442 No. 6

Written Answers. - Trade with UK.

Ivor Callely

Question:

65 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if he will give details of Ireland's trade with the UK over the last five years; the total value; the most common goods; the targets set to increase trade over the next five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

According to the most recent material from the Central Statistics Office, the value of Ireland's exports to the UK for each of the years 1989 to 1993 are as follows:

Year

Value

£million

1989

4,896

1990

4,834

1991

4,797

1992

5,232

1993

3,412

(to August)

The most recent trade statistics, for the period January-August 1993, suggest continued growth in our exports to the UK and the possible emergence of a trade surplus for the first time in many years.
The most common goods exported to the UK in 1992 (the most recent year for which full data are available) were as follows (statistics also from CSO):

Export Goods

1992
