Question:

14 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total cost to the Exchequer of his private and press offices, including the cost of civil servants, programme managers, advisers, consultants, entertainment and travel in respect of the 12 month period ending 30 April 1994; and the comparative figure for 1991.

The total cost of my private office which deals with a substantial volume of social welfare inquiries from public representatives and members of the public from around the country, including the partnership programme manager, advisers, Dáil secretary and the office which deals with constituency matters is estimated at £355,000 for the 12 month period ended 30 April 1994.

I do not have a press office attached to my office.

The costs in respect of 1991 of the Minister's office are estimated at £247,000.

15 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice the total cost to the Exchequer of her private and press offices, including the cost of civil servants, programme managers, advisers, consultants, entertainment and travel in respect of the 12 month period ending 30 April 1994; and the comparative figure for 1991.

The estimated total cost of my private office and the Department's press office for the 12 month period ending 30 April 1994 was £598,950. The estimated comparative figure for the 1991 calendar year was £464,130 inclusive of a standard provision for overhead costs such as accommodation, pension costs etc.
