Vol. 442 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Departmental Costs.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

87 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health the total cost to the Exchequer of his private and press offices, including the cost of civil servants, programme managers, advisers, consultants, entertainment and travel in respect of the 12 month period ending 30 April 1994; and the comparative figure for 1991.

The estimated total cost of my private and press office for the twelve month period ending 30 April 1994 is £0.414 million.

The estimated comparative figure for the year ended 31 December 1991 is £0.273 million.

In comparing the figures for 1991 with the year ended 30 April 1994 it is important to bear in mind that the increase is partly accounted for by increases in Civil Service pay awarded under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress agreement, in particular, the payment in December 1993 and January 1994 of arrears of pay for 1992 and 1993.
