Vol. 443 No. 1

Written Answers. - Occupiers' Liability.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

27 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform in view of the fact that the Law Reform Commission has published its report on occupiers' liability, when he will bring forward legislation on this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy is aware, the Government undertook in the Programme for Competitiveness and Work to bring forward legislation during 1994 to reform and update the law on occupiers' liability, taking into account the Law Reform Commission's final report.

On the publication of that report on 11 May I invited interested bodies and organisations to communicate their views on the report to my Department, if possible within a fortnight.

I shall be asking the Government very shortly for approval to draft the necessary legislation so that it can be introduced, in accordance with the Government's undertaking, during the autumn session.
