Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Status of Prisoner.

Tony Gregory

Question:

65 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if a person (details supplied) is suffering from tuberculosis; if his condition requires hospitalisation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The medical status of every person in custody is, in line with the normal doctor/patient relationship, confidential and I cannot, therefore, comment on it. I can confirm, however, that the person referred to by the Deputy has full access to a wide range of medical facilities, including, if necessary, hospitalisation, which are available to all persons in custody within the prison system. No person in custody whose condition requires hospitalisation is prevented from receiving it.
