Question:46 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Justice the steps, if any, she intends to take to reduce the high legal costs associated with personal injury claims.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 18 and 46 together.
There is a commitment in the Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-97 to introduce measures aimed at reducing legal costs. The Solicitors (Amendment) Bill, 1994 contains a number of measures which should result in reduced legal costs. Further legislation in this area is planned and my proposals will be announced in the normal way in due course when they have been considered and approved by the Government.
