Vol. 443 No. 8

Written Answers. - Television Broadcasting Censorship.

Robert Molloy

Question:

38 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to deal with the problem of Irish children having access to films which have not been approved by the censor with particular reference to satellite film channels who do not have to submit films to the censor even if retransmitted by Irish cable operators such as Cablelink.

The position is that I have no ministerial responsibility in relation to radio or television broadcasting or in relation to the retransmission of satellite television signals by Irish cable operators. These areas are the responsibility of my colleagues, the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, and the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications.
