Vol. 443 No. 8

Written Answers. - Business Migration Scheme.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

40 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Justice the residency requirement in regard to applications for naturalisation made under the business migration scheme; the procedures that are in place to ensure that such requirements are adhered to; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In the course of a reply to priority questions today, I have already referred to the issues raised by the Deputy. There is no specific residency requirement although the practice under successive Governments has been that an applicant for naturalisation on the basis of Irish associations linked to investments in the State should own a residence and agree to spend a reasonable amount of time here. Evidence of such ownership is sought from applicants. A commitment to spend a reasonable amount of time here is generally accepted in good faith.
