Vol. 443 No. 9

Written Answers. - Celbridge (County Kildare) New School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

77 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the current proposals in relation to the provision of a second level school for girls in Celbridge, County Kildare; the number of places likely to be provided; the management structures; the current stage in the development plans; when the necessary funding will be made available to facilitate a start on the project; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The proposed new second level school for girls in Celbridge is to have a community school management structure. A site for the proposed new school is currently being considered by my Department. A schedule of accommodation has been drawn up and it is hoped to initiate architectural planning in the near future.

The school is to be built to cater for 700 pupils in the short term and 550 pupils in the long term. The new school is intended to be available for September 1997 and funding will be provided to meet this timescale.
