Vol. 444 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pension Entitlements.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

85 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine the position regarding the pension and gratuity entitlements of a person (details supplied) in County Louth arising from her late husband's employment with Drogheda Harbour Commissioners; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Drogheda Harbour Commissioners are responsible for the pension arrangements of their employees. I understand that in the case referred to by the Deputy, full pension entitlements under the relevant scheme have been paid.

The scheme in question does not provide for index linking and I understand that this is what is sought in the present instance.

It would be a matter for the commissioners to provide, by scheme submitted for my confirmation, for pensions or improvements in pensions for former employees or spouses and children of employees. I would consider any such proposals on their merits.
