Vol. 444 No. 5

Written Answers. - Government Decentralisation Programme.

Dan Wallace

Question:

120 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the proposals, if any, he has to transfer any part of his Department or any State body under the aegis of his Department to locations outside Dublin, particularly in view of the expansion of the Legal Aid Board head office and the Employment Equality Agency and the desirability of locating public bodies outside Dublin city.

There are no proposals to locate the Head Office of the Legal Aid Board outside Dublin. Of the total staff employed by the board 53 per cent are working in law centres outside Dublin. This compares with 40 per cent in early 1993.

The family mediation service, which at present operates from a centre in Dublin, will shortly operate also from a new centre in Limerick.
I have no plans to transfer any part of my Department or the Employment Equality Agency to a location outside Dublin.
