Vol. 444 No. 6

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Tony Gregory

Question:

96 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the position regarding the application of persons (details supplied) for work permits to enable them to start work on a programme next week to develop international exchange projects with which they have specific experience and expertise.

I am informed that the persons referred to by the Deputy are EU nationals who are exempt from the statutory work permit requirement for non-nationals. I am informed also that they contacted the Garda Aliens Registrations Office recently with regard to permission to reside in the State and that their queries in that regard are being processed. However, while EU nationals may apply for residence permits in accordance with the European Communities (Aliens) Regulations, 1977 to 1993, such permits are not essential to enable EU nationals to engage in employment in the State.
