47 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the present position with proposed legislation to give rights to tenants of long standing in private rented apartments and accommodation; the broad aims she has in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Earlier this year I established a working group to examine and report on the provision of security of tenure in the private rented sector with particular reference to any changes which may be desirable to the provisions of the Landlord and Tenant (Amendment) Act, 1980.
Any legislative proposals I may bring forward on foot of the report of the working group will be announced in the usual way in due course.
