165 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare if written evidence is sought to ensure that income is being declared for tax purposes where rent subsidies are paid to landlords. [204/94]
Under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme a health board may pay a supplement in respect of a person's private rented accommodation where the person is unable to meet the cost from his own resources. Health boards have no function in relation to taxation matters and there is no provision for boards to require evidence of tax compliance by the person's landlord in the context of determining entitlement to rent supplement.
