Question:

244 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment when he will grant the necessary finance to complete stage four of the Kerry central water scheme. [378/94]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 226, 227 and 244 together.

The scheme in question is stage 4 of the Listowel regional water supply scheme for which contract documents are with my Department.

The question of funding for this scheme, and for water services projects generally, has been considered in the context of the provisions available under the National Development Plan. The high level of existing commitments and the demands of schemes already prioritised for investment account for all finance available to the water services programme at present. Therefore, it is not possible to provide funding for this scheme at this stage. However, the position will be regularly reviewed during the period of the National Development Plan.
