Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Noise Levels.

Noel Ahern

Question:

247 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if he will introduce regulations to control noise levels under section 106 of the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992, or any other legislation in view of complaints from residents over a wide area of the north side of Dublin regarding the noise levels from the Sunstroke Concert in Dalymount Park in August 1994. [384/94]

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

260 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to curb the level of noise in places of entertainment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [834/94]

Wexford): I propose to take Questions Nos. 247 and 260 together. The Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992 (Noise) Regulations, 1994 which I made earlier this year provide for new and improved measures which may be taken by individuals and local authorities in relation to noise nuisance. I understand that some of these measures were availed of by Dublin Corporation in connection with the event referred to in the question. Separate controls are exercisable by the local authority in relation to licensing of concerts.

It is my intention to take further measures in due course including the setting of noise standards under section 106 of the 1992 Act.
