387 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the number of consultants, special advisers or programme managers retained by his Department since this Government took office; the nature of the work they have undertaken; and the cost of their services. [788/94]

1. To design questionnaires on Equal Opportunities.

2. (a) To carry out preliminary work associated with the setting up of Council on the Status of People with Disabilities.

(b) To advise the Department on the operation of the Commission for the Status of People with Dis- abilities, with a view to maximising its effective- ness, and on the establishment of the proposed Council on the Status of People with Disabilities.

(c) To liaise, as required, with organisation, both statutory and voluntary, which comprise, rep- resent or work with people with disabilities.

(d) To undertake such research and analysis as may be necessary.

(e) To examine the proposal to appoint a Council on the Status of People with Disabilities and to make recommendations on its role, functions and related issues.

(f) To carry out such other related work as may be necessary from time to time.

3. To complete Working Party Report on Childcare for Working Parents.

Special Adviser

The Special adviser advises the Minister on specialised legal research on the law reform and equality legislation programme of the Department and in connection with the progression of legislative work within the Depart- ment, and generally. He also maintains contact with special advisers in other Ministers' offices with a view to maintaining a co-ordinated approach to Government policy, as well as liaising, on an ongoing basis, between the Minister and officials of the Department.

Programme Manager

The Partnership Programme Manager assists the Mini- ster in managing and co-ordinating the achievement of the Government's objectives in the Partnership Pro- gramme for Government. He provides administrative back-up to the Minister to assist in the achievement of these objectives and meets regularly to review progress with Programme Managers in other Departments.
