Question:418 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Health if he will give a breakdown of asthma sufferers in each health board area; if there is a significant difference in the figures between urban and rural areas; and the way in which the figure for Dublin's inner city compares to rural areas. I propose to take Questions Nos. 405 and 418 together.
The symptoms of asthma can range from mild to severe and, therefore, those suffering from this condition may be treated in a variety of settings from general practitioner care to hospitalisation. For this reason and since asthma is not a notifiable disease, the information sought by the Deputies is not available to my Department.
