Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

512 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if she will provide the necessary finance to enable an extension to go ahead to St. Michael's College, Listowel, County Kerry, in view of the fact that there is a shortage of classroom space in the existing building. [949/94]

This school's application for a grant for additional accommodation is being considered and further information was recently requested from the school authorities. When these details are received the school's accommodation requirements will be determined and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities.

Question:

513 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the provision of a new community school at Cahirciveen, County Kerry. [950/94]

The design team employed by the County Kerry Vocational Education Committee has prepared an outline sketch scheme for the proposed new community college at Cahirciveen. My Department has examined this scheme and discussed the proposals with the vocational education committee and its architect at a recent meeting. As a result of these discussions the design team are to submit revised proposals for further consideration.

514 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the provision of a new community school at Kenmare, County Kerry. [951/94]

The proposed community school in Kenmare is to be developed in two phases. A contract will be placed for phase I of the development as soon as planning permission, which has been applied for, is granted by the local authority.

It is intended to proceed with phase II as soon as possible after the completion of phase I. Detailed drawings for phase II of the development are currently being prepared by the design team, and are to be submitted to my Department in the near future.
