Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tourist Numbers.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

72 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the increase or decrease on previous years in the number of tourists recorded as having visited each tourism region in 1994; if tourist numbers are in accordance with, or ahead of, projections; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [621/94]

The Central Statistics Office do not give a breakdown of overseas visitors for each region of the country. The overall figure for overseas visitors to Ireland for the first six months of this year of 1.480 million is up 9 per cent on the same period in 1993. All regions should benefit from this increase. I am confident that the target of 3.5 million set for the industry for overseas visitors for 1994 will be reached. Bord Fáilte's estimate of regional visitor numbers and revenue for 1994 will not be available until next year.
