183 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice, in respect of each of the legal years from 1988 to 1993 and to date in 1994, the number of custody applications that were submitted by separated married fathers and the number granted; the number of access applications that were made by separated married fathers and the number granted; the number of joint custody applications that were submitted by separated married fathers and the number granted; and the number of access applications and the number of guardianship applications by separated married fathers which are currently before the courts. 184 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice, in respect of each of the legal years 1988 to 1993 and to date in 1994, the number of guardianship applications that were submitted by unmarried fathers and the number granted; the number of access applications that were made by unmarried fathers and the number granted; the number of custody applications that were submitted by unmarried fathers and the number granted; and the number of access applications and the number of guardianship applications by unmarried fathers which are presently before the courts. I propose to take Questions Nos. 183 and 184 together.

District Court statistics in so far as they are available are as follows. The figures for the legal year 1993-94 will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as they come to hand.

Court statistics are not maintained in such a way as to give the remaining statistics sought by the Deputy. They could only be compiled by the expenditure of an inordinate amount of staff time which could not be justified.
