Vol. 445 No. 7

Written Answers. - Alternative Driving Test.

Liz McManus

Question:

190 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide an alternative examination for learner drivers who repeatedly fail their driving test even though they are capable of driving. [1121/94]

The elements of the driving test, including knowledge of the rules of the road and the various manoeuvres required to be performed during the course of the practical test, must be in accordance with the requirements of the EU Directive on driving licences which are reflected in Irish law. Therefore, it is not open to me to provide for an alternative test or to reduce the standard required to pass the test.
