Vol. 445 No. 7

Written Answers. - Funding for Development of Services.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

92 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Health the amount of revenue funding that has been allocated in 1994 to the mentally handicapped; the amount of this which has been taken up; if some of the funding cannot be taken up in view of the fact that he has failed to allocate the necessary capital funding to enable projects to get under way; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [920/94]

I am assuming that the Deputy's question refers to the additional funding which was allocated in 1994 for the development of services for persons with a mental handicap. Of the £12.5 million additional funding provided in 1994, £11.5 million has been allocated to date. The £1 million balance will be allocated in the course of the next few weeks. In addition I have also made a separate capital allocation to enable additional training facilities to be provided for persons with a mental handicap under the European Regional Development Fund Structural Fund Programme. I am not aware of any problems in regard to the planned implementation of these service developments.
