Vol. 445 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cardiac Surgery.

Donal Carey

Question:

93 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Health the number of patients referred for cardio-surgery from 1 July 1994, to date; the number of such patients who have received treatment in this period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [983/94]

I regret to inform the Deputy that as such information could not be routinely collected other than at a disproportionate cost, it is not possible to provide the information. However, the Deputy may wish to know that the admission of a patient to hospital for cardiac surgery is a clinical decision taken by the consultant concerned and is based on the patient's condition and not on the length of time the patient has been on the waiting list.
