Vol. 446 No. 2

Written Answers. - Adoptive Parents' Maternity Leave.

Ivor Callely

Question:

74 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the progress in relation to maternity leave for adoptive parents; when the necessary legislation will be introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1750/94]

I have introduced a Bill to meet the commitment to provide for adoptive maternity leave contained in the Programme for a Partnership Government.

I intend that the Bill will be enacted during the autumn session. The Minister for Social Welfare would propose to introduce legislation to provide for related social welfare benefits soon afterwards. The two Acts can be expected to come into operation on a suitable common date.
