Vol. 446 No. 3

Written Answers. - Car Security.

Enda Kenny

Question:

171 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the fact that it is legal to import devices which can be used to latch on to legitimate anti-theft car alarms for the purpose of stealing them; and the action, if any, she has taken to prevent the entry and sale of such devices in this country; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2149/94]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they are aware of the devices in question and they are in liaison with the car security industry about the matter. In this regard, it is understood that steps are being taken to counter the use of such devices.

The Deputy will appreciate that, as Minister for Justice, I have no function with regard to prohibiting the importation of the items in question.
