Vol. 446 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before proceeding to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of related notices under Standing Order 30 dealing with three different topics. I propose to deal with these three topics separately and I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. In regard to the first topic, I have received notice from Deputies John Bruton and Pat Rabbitte. I call on Deputy Bruton to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I request the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to debate a motion requiring all Ministers to publish a full list of their shareholdings in companies.

I request leave to move the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following specific and important matter of public interest, namely, the disclosure that the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications has been a shareholder in a mining company in respect of which he will have to make a decision regarding an application for a mining licence; whether the Minister disclosed such a shareholding to the Cabinet; if the shareholding was consistent with the guidelines issued to Ministers on taking office and the need for the Taoiseach and the Minister to make a statement on the matter.

Having considered the matters fully I do not consider them to be contemplated by the Standing Order. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion. I call on Deputy Bradford to state the matter of which he has given me notice.

I request the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to debate a motion requiring the Taoiseach to publish detailed guidelines governing the use of air corps transport by Minister dealing, inter alia, with the possible use of air corps transport by Ministers for foreign trips which would involve an element of party fund raising; on party business including travel to by-elections; to commute to their homes at weekends and to transport family members, requiring him to pay to the air corps the full cost of any such trips out of the Vote of the Office of Taoiseach on an arms length basis so as to ensure transparency, cost effectiveness and accountability in this matter.

Having considered this matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 30. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

One way traffic.

I now call on Deputy Harney to put the matter she conveyed to me.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss an important matter of public interest, namely, the failure of the Attorney General to act on an extradition warrant sought by the RUC for Fr. Brendan Smyth whose extradition was sought so that he could stand trial in respect of a large number of child sexual abuse charges.

Having considered this matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 30. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

Is there any way in which I can raise this matter?

It was raised already.

No one has spoken on behalf of the Attorney General. Is there any way I can raise this matter with the Taoiseach?

I suggest the Deputy communicates with my office.
