Question:291 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education the number of persons in VTOS and Youthreach each January since their coming into effect. [1961/94]
Written Answers. - VTOS/Youthreach Participants.
The VTOS was established in autumn 1989. The number of participants in January, 1994 was 3,400. Information is not available on the actual number of participants in January for the other years concerned. However, the number of places provided on the scheme in January of those years was as follows: 1990, 260; 1991, 660; 1992, 1,060; 1993, 2,060.
Youthreach
The Youthreach programme commenced in September, 1989, details of trainee uptake for each successive year to date (as of January) are as follows: 1990, 467; 1991, 901; 1992, 1,257; 1993, 1,422; 1994, 1,453.
