Vol. 446 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teachers' Service.

Paul McGrath

Question:

300 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education the number of teachers who have applied to her Department in connection with buying back their years of service under the old scheme; the number of these applications who have received specific quotations; the number of teachers who have accepted the terms offered and are actually buying back their years; and when the process will be completed. [2030/94]

A total of 5,025 national, secondary, community and comprehensive school teachers applied in 1991 to purchase notional service for superannuation purposes under the original purchase scheme. Quotations have issued in 1,288 cases of which 583 have taken up the purchase option. Every effort is being made to expedite the issue of quotations and the back log will be dealt with as promptly as possible.
