Vol. 446 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deal with Criminal.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

62 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to a recent newspaper report (details supplied) which suggested that the Garda Síochána had done a deal with a well-known Dublin criminal by arranging for the release from prison in Britain of another criminal for the return of a file stolen from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1934/94]

It is not the practice for the Minister for Justice to make statements to the House about individual Garda investigations except in singular instances where the circumstances of an investigation are so exceptional that such a course is deemed appropriate.
