Written Answers. - Ballinrobe (Mayo) Garda Station.

Robert Molloy

Question:

90 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the condition of the existing Garda station at Ballinrobe, County Mayo; the proposals, if any, she has to provide a modern Garda station at an early date; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2017/94]

Enda Kenny

Question:

176 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice the progress being made in respect of the provision of a new Garda station for Ballinrobe, County Mayo; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2154/94]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 90 and 176 together.

At present the gardaí in Ballinrobe occupy rented accommodation which is in good repair and provides sufficient space for the station party. It does not contain a cell, however, and for this reason the Garda authorities do not consider it suitable for their long term needs in the area. It is proposed to build a new Garda station in Ballinrobe but it is unlikely that there will be any progress in this regard for some time as resources must be concentrated on more urgent Garda accommodation projects.
