Vol. 446 No. 4

Written Answers. - Appointment of Remedial Teacher.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

167 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if she intends to appoint a remedial teacher to County Meath to look after schools (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2392/94]

In the current year, I have announced the appointment of an additional 100 remedial teachers to the primary sector. This brings the total number of such posts now in place to 1,133.

These appointments were made on the basis of priority of need, following the collection of data from the schools by my Department's Primary Inspectorate.

I will be keeping the question of further need in this area under review and the needs of all schools, including the schools referred to by the Deputy, will be considered in this context.
