Question:56 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will ensure that job opportunities in the State sector are not lost due to excessive overtime and selective rostering of duties. [2196/94]

Both the Programme for Government and the Programme for Competitiveness and Work provided for action on work-sharing. With a view to fulfilling the commitments in these programmes, a detailed survey was undertaken at my request by the ESRI and those findings are now becoming available. Officials of my Department are in discussions with relevent interests, notably IBEC and ICTU.
It would be my intention to put proposals to Government in the matter as soon as possible.
