Vol. 446 No. 4

Written Answers. - Appointment of High Court Inspector.

Bernard Allen

Question:

61 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he has received requests from various persons to appoint a High Court inspector to a company (details supplied) and its associate subsidiaries in view of the inability of the Garda authorities to satisfactorily complete their role as inquirers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [276/94]

Upon my appointment to ministerial office. I gave due consideration to various further representations to me about the company in question and decided in all the circumstances that there were not grounds to demur from a decision taken by a previous Minister for Industry and Commerce that no useful purpose would be served in this case by instigating a company law inquiry in Ireland. I accordingly replied in those terms to the various representations, including placing my considered position in the Official Report of this House by way of reply to Question No. 92 on Wednesday, 24 February 1993 (Volume 426, Columns 1451-2). In so far as matters under my aegis are concerned, the position in relation to the Gibraltar company in question remains as indicated in that reply.
