Vol. 446 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pilot Employment Project.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

90 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the current progress of the plans to set up a pilot employment project along the lines of that suggested by the CMRS catering for up to 1,000 people; and whether he intends to extend the scheme in the future. [1718/94]

Arrangements for the pilot project based on the concept proposed by the Conference of Religious of Ireland, formerly CMRS, were approved by my Department in May, 1994.

The project which will involve 1,000 places, is being administered on behalf of the Conference of Religious by a project manager based at SMA House, Maynooth under the title part-time job opportunities programme.
I understand that about 800 participants will be on the programme by the end of this month. The project, which will operate for three years, is being monitored on an ongoing basis by a committee comprising representatives of the Conference of Religious of Ireland, FÁS and my Department. An interim evaluation of the programme will be undertaken towards the end of 1995 with a final evaluation being completed in the latter half of 1997.
